Why renewable energy and emissions targets matter for India and the world.

Manoj Kohli, Country Head of Softbank India in-conversation with Patrick Suckling, non-resident Senior Fellow of the Asia Society Policy Institute and Australia’s former Ambassador for the Environment.

About the event:

Is the adoption of renewable energy in India the key to meeting global emissions targets and mitigating climate change? What role can Australia play in developing this sector?

As the world grapples with the impacts of the unfolding COVID-19 pandemic it bears remembering that another global catastrophe is also unfolding, and that is, climate change.

Recently appointed, Asia Society Australia - Victoria Distinguished Fellow, Manoj Kohli will join Asia Society Policy Institute Senior Fellow, Patrick Suckling for a conversation exploring why renewable energy development and adoption in India is so important and what the current green policy, economic and investment landscape in India looks like.

India and much of South Asia face a dual problem, not only are their vast populations and emerging middle classes increasing demand for energy, but without a rapid change in their energy-use mix they could be set on a path to become the global engine for carbon emissions.

However, India might just prove to be the place where entrepreneurship, innovation, policy settings and investment can align to promote rapid and sustained change in energy use and a blueprint for other markets to follow.

This event is open to the public. Registration is essential.

Date: 19 May 2020
Time: 2:30pm AEST (10am IST)
