Is Asia’s economic rise sustainable? Can Asia maintain its rate of economic development and reduce its carbon emissions?
As the world’s fastest developing region, Asia’s economies are growing at an extraordinary rate with Australia a direct beneficiary. But as the region’s economic rise accelerates, so too does its demand for energy supply, increasing carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. Join Director of Asia-Pacific Sustainability at the Asia Society Policy Institute, Alistair Ritchie, in-conversation with Advance Queensland Fellow at the University of Queensland, Dr Lynette Molyneux, and Chief Operations Officer, Mineral Carbonation International, Sophia Hamblin Wang, as they explore opportunities to navigate these simultaneous trends and ensure economic and environmental sustainability in the region long term.
This discussion will be the first in a series exploring the Sustainability Edition of Asia Society Australia’s Disruptive Asia project, a major thought-leadership initiative that looks at how Asia’s rise is impacting Australia’s foreign policy, economy and society and how Australia should respond. In 2020, we ask if Asia’s rise is sustainable – environmentally, economically and socially?
This event is open to the public. Registration is essential, places strictly limited. For further enquiries contact: [email protected]
Date: 26 May 2020
Time: 3:00 p.m. AEST (6:00am UK time)
Location: YouTube LIVE
